We recommend updating to the 64-bit version of the game before July 1, 2018, to ensure your World of Warcraft gaming experience is unaffected. As with past expansions, we’re making a great many technological updates to WoW with Battle for Azeroth to further enhance the game experience, and the time is right to make this change. You can go into your 'Program Files (x86)World of Warcraft' folder and launch it directly from wow-64. The Wowhead Client is a little application we use to keep our database up to date, and to provide you with some nifty extra functionality on the website It serves 2 main purposes: It maintains a WoW addon called the Wowhead Looter, which collects data as you play the game It uploads the collected data to Wowhead in order to keep the database. Even before they implemented the laucher it still had its own launcher lol.

The vast majority of World of Warcraft players are already running the 64-bit version of the game, and this change will allow us to focus on making the 64-bit version as stable and efficient as possible. I loved WoW because I didnt need a launcher to play. The memory limitations of 32-bit operating systems can impact the playability and stability of many modern games, and 64-bit operating systems have been industry standard for several years. When the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth pre-patch is live, we will no longer support the World of Warcraft game client for 32-bit operating systems.
